Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was by far one of the best places. We got to dance. We listened to music. We saw our music video with Rachel Hale. We saw where all the teams were from. There were 27 states and 6 countries. There were teams from Brazil, Korea, Poland, Pakistan, and Ecuador. All the teams sat with their state so we sat with Maryland we all wore yellow shirts and had light up tambourines.

Saturday

Morning

We got gifts from Mrs. Young at breakfast which made us even more hyped about the competition.

Getting ready

We were so nervous and excited at the same time but when it was competition time we did our best and rolled through the script. Structure check in went well and I ate a swedish fish sandwhich.

Performance

We had to build a wood and glue structure that could roll down a ramp and then hold weight and have a script that went along with it. We did the very best we could for the script and the structure blew our minds with how much weight it held and overall I think we did as good as we could have. Our structure weighed 134 grams and held 395 pounds. Our one at states held 210 pounds so we held 185 pounds more than we did at states. We reengineered it and improved our structure.

Talking to the judges

Afterward talking to the judges we got the impression that they were proud and amazed.

Instant challenge

In instant challenge they give you a challenge you have a limited amount of time and resources and you have to complete the challenge and you have no idea what it is until you walk into the room and they tell you what to do. You have to work very good as a team to get anything done.

Friday

This morning we were tourists. We went to Union Station and saw model trains and we got to go into the set where most people don’t get to go. We felt like giants. Then we went to the WWI memorial and there were so many steps. At lunch a train delivered our food.

In the afternoon we went to the convention center and got cool DI name tags. We practiced our script and we were invited to do a music video with Rachel Hale.

Our first day in Kansas City

When we go to the hotel we went swimming. It was fun. Then we ate barbecue and it was delicious but we didn’t have forks so it was messy. Then we played games.

On the way to Kansas City

It took 12 hours to get from my house to here. We drove in the car, took a school bus, 2 plane trips, a bus, a street car trolley, and and walked a little. We flew over Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri.
